
MADISON, Wisconsin - Wisconsin revenue officials are confiscating more illegal cigarettes. State Revenue Department spokeswoman Jessica Iverson says one reason for the increase is because smokers are trying to avoid paying a higher tax. The state increased the cigarette tax by $1, to $1.77 a pack on Jan. 1. Revenue officials say agents confiscated 12,040 packs of cigarettes from businesses in the year that ended June 30.
