Boston Looks to Ban Cigarette Sales in Pharmacies


Boston - Should a store that sells prescription medicines also be in the business of selling cigarettes, the nation’s leading cause of preventable deaths? Boston’s health Brahmins don’t think so. The city’s Public Health Commission is likely to give initial approval today to a ban on cigarette sales at pharmacies, the Boston Globe reports this morning. “Why, in a place where people go to get healthy and get information about staying healthy, would you want to sell something that has absolutely no redeeming value and ends up killing a lot of people?” Barbara Ferrer, the commission’s executive director, told the paper.
